We are delighted to welcome Rachel Yowell, CrossOver’s new volunteer manager. Rachel started at CrossOver on a part-time basis on February 1 and will join us on site full time beginning March 1. Read on to learn more about Rachel.
Tell us a little about you.
Hello! My name is Rachel and I am from Madison County, Virginia, but I have lived in Greensboro, North Carolina, for the last five years, where I worked in full-time college ministry. I graduated from James Madison University in 2016 with a degree in health sciences. In my free time, you can catch me exploring, traveling, working out, hiking, and spending time with people. I love food, and if I could, I would eat ice cream every day. I have four nieces and nephews, and being an aunt is the best! If you are familiar with personality tests, I am an ENFP on the Myers-Briggs and I am an enneagram 7.
How did you hear about CrossOver?
Since college, it has been my dream to work for a nonprofit healthcare organization, and my jaw hit the floor when I came across the job posting for CrossOver. It was exactly what I had been looking for, and I am so grateful for this opportunity!
What are you looking forward to most about working at CrossOver?
I love helping people, encouraging people, honoring people, and helping people to thrive. I am also passionate about health in general, which is why I majored in health sciences. Our bodies are an amazing gift and it is incredible what they are able to do when they are healthy, but if our bodies are not healthy, everything else in our lives is affected. It is so important to take care of our bodies and to care for one another. While I am passionate about healthcare and taking care of our bodies, I never felt particularly called to the clinical side of healthcare – I was always drawn to the nonprofit part of healthcare, and felt that was the best avenue to use my skills and personality in the health field. CrossOver is exactly what I have been looking for, and I am beyond grateful to get to be a part of the team and serve people here!
What excites you about working with volunteers?
Volunteers are passionate. I am so honored to work with people who choose to serve others. It is inspiring to be around such passionate people!
What is your favorite show/movie?
My favorite TV show is Survivor and I’ve been watching that a lot recently. My favorite movie of all time is Remember the Titans.
