CrossOver is the only free clinic in the Richmond area with a licensed on-site pharmacy. For over 10 years, our pharmacy has provided life-saving medications to our patients. Since the majority of our patients have a chronic disease such as hypertension or diabetes, medications are a critical part of their healthcare needs.
The CrossOver pharmacy is a volunteer led effort. Our pharmacist in charge, Leo Ross, has volunteered for more than 10 years. Twenty-four other volunteer pharmacists join Leo to provide desperately needed medications. With the help of these incredible volunteers, CrossOver provides medications to our patients and patients at nine other local safety net providers.
In the past year, cash expenses for the pharmacy were less than $200,000. With this small investment, CrossOver distributed more than $10 million in medications, a return on investment of over 55 to 1.
Currently, the pharmacy receives medications from seven pharmaceutical companies: Glaxo Smith Kline, Pfizer, Novartis, Abbvie, and Merck. Medications are provided through RxPartnership. Medications are dispensed to CrossOver patients as well as patients at The Health Brigade, Center for Healthy Hearts, the Free Clinic of Powhatan, Bon Secours Care-A-Van, and St. Joseph’s Outreach Clinic, and Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services. Medications are couriered from the Community Pharmacy to other free clinics by the Bon Secours Health System lab couriers.
