Compassionate Care Awards Virtual Event FAQ

What is a CCAs virtual event?

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot hold an in-person event this year for our Compassionate Care Awards. To keep everyone safe while still celebrating CrossOver’s volunteers, we are planning a very special evening. Participants will be sent instructions about how to tune in online from the safety and comfort of home. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Danny Avula, director of the Richmond City and Henrico County Health Departments, who will offer brief remarks. We also look forward to sharing video messages from past CCA honorees and updates on how CrossOver has been serving, learning, and growing during the pandemic. It’s going to be a special evening, and we hope you’ll join us!

Why not just delay the CCAs until 2021?

We do look forward to a wonderful celebration in 2021—hopefully in person! But in the meantime, the pandemic and its health and economic impacts have caused more people than ever to need CrossOver’s services. In order to serve those who need us—those whom we are called to serve—we need your support. The Compassionate Care Awards are our premiere fundraising event each year, and we hope you’ll join us so we can continue to provide compassionate healthcare to our neighbors in need.

What does my gift support?

As the economic implications of the pandemic continue to unfold, more people than ever are going to need CrossOver’s services. Many individuals and families are entering the uninsured or Medicaid population, some for the first time, and they are seeking out a medical home. At CrossOver, we are called to meet that need. Your gift will allow us to extend compassionate healthcare to even more of our neighbors in this crucial time.

What is included in my event registration?

Your registration for the event will allow us to email you with all the information you’ll need to join us on October 1. In addition, you can make a donation in advance of the event if you wish.

How does dining work at a virtual Compassionate Care Awards?

CrossOver is partnering with area restaurants who will create a special CCAs dinner menu for our event. If you wish, you may order a meal from one of these restaurants and pick it up on October 1 before event time. This is optional, but it’s an excellent way to support the local businesses who are supporting CrossOver—plus, we know the food will be delicious! Check out restaurant options and details here.

Who is being honored at this year’s CCAs?

This year’s Compassionate Care Awards does not have specific honorees. Rather, with the help of past honorees—our CCAs alumni—we are celebrating the successes of a challenging year during which we’ve been particularly grateful for our volunteers, who have gone above and beyond, some by serving in the clinic at increased risk to their own health, some by finding creative and innovative ways to support our work from home. We couldn’t be more proud of our volunteers, and we’re as excited as ever to celebrate them this year.

What does it mean to be an event sponsor?

Event sponsors are individuals, families, foundations, and businesses who decide to support the CCAs event at a higher level. Sponsorships carry benefits depending on the sponsorship level, and full details can be found here.

What is this year’s theme for the CCAs?

This year’s Compassionate Care Awards theme is For Such a Time as This. We chose this theme in order to celebrate the ways CrossOver’s past has prepared us for the moment in which we find ourselves; to illumine the ways the present reality of COVID-19 has affirmed, strengthened, and deepened our mission; and to respond, with your help, to the needs of the future that, even now, is visible on the horizon, in which more people than ever before will need CrossOver’s services. CrossOver’s mission statement begins, “We are called…” and we take that call seriously. We are called for such a time as this, and we hope you’ll meet us there.
